Men of Murdock: Andrew Holland
Mr Andrew Holland. Beard work by Jennifer Spiteri.
Mr Andrew Holland, geordie and radio lover, answered a few MurdockMan questions after Jennifer Spiteri trimmed his beard into neat shape at Murdock Liberty.
Who’s your barber?
Jennifer Spiteri in Murdock at Liberty.
Where are you from?
Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Where do you live?
Stoke Newington, London.
What do you do?
I manage communications for Everything Everywhere, the company behind Orange and T-Mobile.
Describe yourself in one word?
Independent (sometimes known as anti-social…)
Major life passions?
Radio (I highly recommend TuneIn Radio app for iPhone. It allows you to listen to pretty much any radio station around the world. Truly fascinating stuff being able to search for stations by genre or location.) and magazines. I subscribe to many, many magazines and the pile in my living room suggests I don’t really have time to make my way through them all. My goal is to start reading them more regularly.
Favourite book/album/film? (if at all possible to name just one of each!)
There’s plenty to choose from but I’d have to say my all-time favourite album is ‘Different Class’ by Pulp. Favourite film is a nightmare to narrow down so I’ll just go with ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ simply because John Candy is a legend.
What motto do you live by?
It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
What would be your theme tune?
Too hard to say. Let’s just say stick Magic 105.4 on and go for some easy cheese!!
Describe your perfect day off in London?
Always start with coffee, at home. Wander out for brunch, more coffee followed by spending too much money I don’t have in places like Liberty, Folk, YMC… late afternoon drinks with friends, dinner and then more drinks. And a few more drinks. Not knowing when to stop is definitely a Geordie thing.
Favourite London coffee?
Shoreditch Grind recently caught my attention for the coffee, the staff and the location.
Favourite place to get a proper drink?
For a no-frills pint you can’t beat The Lyric, tucked away behind Piccadilly Circus.
Favourite place to chill with friends for dinner?
I’ve got a few favourite spots so I’d just have to be really vague and say somewhere local, Stoke Newington/Dalston way.
Coffee table art book or bedside novel?
I’d probably say art book. I’m not a big reader of novels.
Beard, stubble, clean shaven or moustache?
Without question, beard. I haven’t been clean shaven in about 10 years.
