Edwin Store – Shoreditch

Kyra Nicholson. Manager of Edwin Store.
What with labels such as 45Rpm and Kapital, those stylish Japanese have quite a reputation these days for high quality denim. This reputation all began with Edwin in1947. Firstly, importing US denim and then creating their own washed and and selvedge jeans. They also happen to be the brand that invented the ‘stone wash’.
This spring, Edwin opened their first European store on Charlotte Road which, luckily enough for us, was just down the street from Murdock Shoreditch. We chatted with store manager Kyra Nicholson to find out which are her favourite Edwin pieces.
What’s your favourite pair of Edwin jeans?
For girls I would have to say the Angel Pant. It’s a really flattering cut through the waist and thighs, not too skinny through the leg, just easy and comfortable. My favourite wash is the ‘fader wash’ on shuttle denim.
What’s your favourite non-denim Edwin item?
For this season, definitely the Roader Jacket in camo. It’s a men’s jacket but the small fits perfectly on girls and it works well over a t-shirt or hoody. I’m looking forward to the print getting a bit sun-bleached and washed out over the summer.
(Doubt it’ll get that sun-bleached this ‘summer’ -Ed.)
What style of jeans are popular in the store at the moment?
Basically the ED55s in raw red-listed selvedge. In terms of cut, it’s relaxed through the thighs with a slight taper at the ankle. The fit works well on most guys, it can be worn low or mid at the waist, which takes it from looking quite casual/street to smart when worn with brogues or boots. It’s ideal to pair with Redwings or Clarks.
