Introducing the dapper Mr Matthew Jessop – barber at Murdock’s concession in Liberty’s menswear department.

What is your preferred drink?

All wine…

If you had to choose another city other than London to live in, which would it be?

San Francisco because its wildly diverse, but it always has to be London for me.

How long have you been working as a barber? Where and when did you start?

I’ve been in the industry for 14 years, mostly in fashion but specifically as a barber for four.

Who would you most like the wardrobe of?

Ozwald Boateng.

Who’s your hairstyle icon?

Marlon Brando from 50s – 80s.

How would you describe your own personal style?

Geek chic.

What’s your favourite shop in London?

Forbidden Planet on Shaftsbury Avenue!

What was the last play, exhibition or gig you went to in London?

The Woman In Black a couple of weeks ago.

What do you think makes a good barber?

The ability to understand the client’s perception of a good haircut.

What item of clothing do you most like wearing?

My beige trench coat.

Other than loved ones, what would you save from a house fire?

Probably my DVD collection because I’ve invested in over 800 of them.

What’s your philosophy on physical appearance, wellbeing and grooming?

One should never try to be something they’re not. Just feel comfortable in your own style and appearance.

What would be your theme tune?

Stairway to Heaven – Led Zepplin.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Giant chocolate buttons – I have no shame.

Describe your perfect day off?

Popping into London with my children, walking along the river with a gingerbread latte.

What person living or deceased would you most like to share an evening with?

Marlon Brando – I’d ask him where he buys his trench coats.

What’s your favourite area in London?

Covent Garden – because of the variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and theatres.
